too young to not be included

i remember my mom and dad hugging in the kitchen

and me, the height of the table, coming up to their waists

and poking my head between their bodies
and wrapping my arms around their legs
and begging to be picked up

me on one side, jaime on the other
just four heads in a circle with two pairs of little feet dangling on the sides
too old to be picked up and too young to not be included
