Red Rot

For George Floyd

I didn't think it was possible to push Coronavirus deaths down in the news cycle but here we are. I find my brain agitated and stalled. I want to believe in change, that this, finally this, will challenge how this country treats black bodies. I hope with that optimism and feel weighted by nearly 35 years of experience of white people in power looking the other way. I bear that blame myself for having been personally unaffected and subsequently silent.

This movement (this moment) is not about me, but it is about loving and caring for others like me, with their own voices and stories. For George Floyd, for the many more who go unnamed.
